Convert a Sketch door to a full parametric door

Cadimage Door, Cadimage Window and Cadimage Garage Door can be used to model doors and/or windows.

• Cadimage Window provides the greatest flexibility. It can be used to model the vast majority of windows and many doors.
• Cadimage Door is intended to model doors only, although some glazing can be included around the doors.
• Cadimage Garage Door can only be used to model doors that lift up from the base, with no peripheral glazing.

The following articles describe how you can use one or other of these three library parts to model a door or a window.

In summary though, the process is always the same:

1. Decide which library part to use.
2. Open the Door or Window Settings dialog.
3. Choose a design start point.
4. Edit the settings.

1. Decide which Library Part to Use

To decide which of the three library parts you should use, follow these simple guidelines:

• To model a window, use Cadimage Window.
• To model a simple door, even if it includes simple glazing, use Cadimage Door.
• To model a door with multiple glazed panels to either side or above it, use Cadimage Window.
• To model a garage door with no peripheral glazing, use Cadimage Garage Door.

2. Open the Door or Window Settings Dialog

Cadimage Window is an ArchiCAD Window element. To open its Window Settings dialog, double-click on the Windowtool in the ArchiCAD toolbox, then browse to select the Cadimage Window library part from the Cadimage Library.

Cadimage Door and Cadimage Garage Door are ArchiCAD Door elements. To open their Door Settings dialogs, double-click on the Door tool in the ArchiCAD toolbox, then browse to select the Cadimage Door or the Cadimage Garage Door library part from the Cadimage Library.

3. Choose a Design Start Point

On opening the Settings dialog, you will be presented with a choice of two ways to work with the Cadimage Door orCadimage Window tool.

Choose Sketch a Window (or Sketch a Door) if you want to start the design process by 'sketching' a door or window. This approach is useful at the very earliest stage of a design, when you simply want to place rectangular doors or windows into a project in order to present a concept. For windows, it is also a handy starting point for modelling windows with large numbers of mullions (e.g. shop fronts/ commercial work). The Sketch Design mode of working will be selected at the top of the left menu.

If you choose to Parametrically Design a New Window (or Parametrically Design a New Door) from scratch, you will be taken immediately to a page of the Settings dialog where you can define the window setout. The Detailed Designmode of working will be selected.

Note that you can toggle freely between the working modes at any time.

4. Edit the Settings

Use the left menu to navigate to each page of the Settings dialog.

For many of the components, the settings are grouped as Model, Surfaces and Appearance. Use the buttons at the top, right of the Settings dialog to toggle between these three groups of settings.
