ARCHICAD ‘Surfaces’ are named ‘Finishes’ for measurement purposes to avoid confusion with measurement of surface area and to clarify the intended meaning. Like materials, there can be any number of finishes applied to the same element, so a request for the element finishes delivers a list of items (see section 4.4.6). This can be used in exactly the same way as materials (see section 4.4.8) with the exception that referencing a specific finish, e.g. wall.finishes(“Paint-White”), directly provides the total area the finish has been applied to, i.e. it is not necessary to write wall.finishes(“Paint-White”).area.
