When you initially place a Roof Covering onto an Archicad Roof, default edge types are assigned based on the type of roof selected on the Configuration page.
For instance, if you choose a Hip/Gable type roof:
- All edges running parallel to the roof pitching line, at the lower end of the roof, will be treated as gutters (with fascia boards, soffits and gutters added).
- All edges running parallel to the roof pitching line, at the upper end of the roof, will be treated as ridge junctions (with flashings added).
- All edges running perpendicular to the roof pitching line, will be treated as gables (with barge boards and soffits added).
- All edges forming hips will be treated as hip junctions (with hip flashings added).
- All edges forming valleys will be treated as valley junctions (with valley flashings added).
To edit individual edges of the roof covering:

Select one or more roof coverings in any project view.
- From the Ci Tools menu, choose Coverings > Edit Roof Edges.

Select one or more edges:
- To select an edge, double-click on that edge.
- Use the control (command) key while clicking, to select multiple edges.
- Click within a roof polygon to select all edges of that polygon.
- Use the magic wand button to select all edges of a particular type.
- Choose an edge type for the selection.
