Create a Custom Handle

To create a custom handle:

1. Model the handle using ARCHICAD building elements, or import a handle from an external file. (In this example, I've imported a handle from a 3DS file, and converted it to a Morph).

   

2. Select the handle, and from the File menu choose Libraries and Objects > Save Selection as > Knob.

   

3. Give the new knob a meaningful name (i.e. not My Custom Handle), and click the Save button.

   

Make it Available for Use

To use the new handle in a cabinet:

1. Select the cabinet in which you want to use the new handle, and open its Settings dialog.
2. On the Available Handles page, add a new handle:

   

   1. Give the new handle a name.
   2. Set the Shape to Custom Knob.
   3. Choose the handle you created, from the list of custom knobs.
   4. Choose how the handle should be applied:
      • Place Directly on Front – choose this option if the natural orientation of the handle you created was in the plane of the floor plan, as in the example.
      • Rotate and Place on Front – choose this option if the natural orientation of the handle you created was in the vertical plane.
      • Apply as Cutter – choose this option to use the handle you created to cut a hole in the front.
   5. Enter the Dimensions of the handle (these should match the actual handle dimensions, otherwise the handle will distort to fit).

Use the New Handle

Having created a custom handle, and added it to the list of available handles, you can use it on any module in the cabinet.

1. On the Modules page, select the modules to which you want to assign the new handle.

   

2. Choose the new Handle from the list.
3. Click OK to apply the settings.

   

Share it

To share the new handle:

1. Select a cabinet that uses the custom handle, and open its Settings dialog.
2. On the Available Handles page, click the Copy button.
3. Click OK to close the dialog.
4. Select any other cabinet in which you wish to use the custom front, and open its Settings dialog.
5. On the Available Handles page, click the Paste button. The custom handle will be added to the list, and is ready to use within the selected cabinet.
