When opening an Archicad file an error may appear stating that the version number of the loaded library does not match the version number of the add-on for one or more of the installed CI Tools.
This message indicates that the project is loading an incorrect version of the library for one or more of the CI Tools add-ons.
This may be caused by a number of scenarios:
- The project uses BIMcloud libraries, and updates for the CI Tools have been installed locally, but the BIMcloud libraries have not been updated.
- Your company uses a centralised file server to store Archicad Libraries, and updates for the CI Tools have been installed locally, but the server libraries have not been updated.
- The project has been back-saved from a newer version of Archicad, and is still loading that versions libraries.
- There are old versions of the CI Tools libraries, or elements from those libraries, being loaded into the project, or stored in the Embedded Library.
Before continuing please:
- Make sure that the CI Tools are all up-to-date using the CI Tools Installer app.
- Check that the project is loading the current libraries for the installed tools in the Library Manager.
If you are using a local setup for your Archicad and CI Tools Libraries, your Libraries in the Library Manager should look similar to the image below:
Libraries may also be loaded from BIMcloud. While the file structure will most likely be the same, this is dependent on the preferences of the person who uploaded them.
BIMcloud Libraries:
If these errors are appearing when loading BIMcloud Libraries please check if your BIMcloud Libraries are up-to-date.
To check this, go to the File ➔ Libraries and Objects ➔ Manage BIMCloud Libraries... menu.
Check the date when this Library was uploaded. If this date is prior to the most recent CI Tools update's release, it will need to be updated:
1) Ask all users to Send and Receive changes then Leave all current Teamwork projects.
2) Update the BIMcloud library from one of the local computers.
3) Ask all users to clear their Local Teamwork Data.
This will force Archicad to use the updated libraries. See the link below for more information:
Once this is done, the users can re-join their projects. It is important that everyone has all the same, latest CI Tools updates installed and the BIMCloud libraries need to be updated with these latest updates as well. See the link below for more information:
If the new libraries are not detected:
Sometimes Archicad is unable to detect changes in the CI Tools libraries automatically.
Since the CI Tools Libraries are installed inside the Archicad Library ##
folder by default, where ## is the Archicad version, the safest method to update the CI Tools Libraries on the BIMcloud server is to replace the 'Archicad Library ##' library stored there with a local copy that has the updated Tools already installed.
To replace the Library, open the File ➔ Libraries and Objects ➔ Manage BIMcloud Libraries... window. From here, you can select and delete the 'Archicad Library ##' from the server.
Then, click the 'Upload a local library...' button.
Then select the Archicad Library ##
folder from inside your Archicad install directory.
Once the library has uploaded, 'Reload & Apply' the libraries from the Library Manager.
File Server Libraries:
The CI Library ##
folder where the CI Tools Library files are located, is contained in the Archicad Library ##
folder by default and the libraries are updated automatically when you install any CI Tools updates.
If your company stores its Archicad libraries in a custom location, these will need to be updated manually by copying the up-to-date .lcf
files from the CI Library ##
folder, and overwriting the old copies.
Back-saved Projects:
When a project is saved to an older version of Archicad, the loaded libraries will not be automatically updated and the libraries of the newer version of Archicad will remain loaded.
Different versions of Archicad receive separate updates for the CI Tools and Tools may have different version numbers for different versions of Archicad. Since the CI Tools add-ons for one version of Archicad are not designed to work for a different version, the same is true of the CI Tools libraries.
This means that you will need to unload the newer libraries in the Library Manager, and load in the correct ones for that version of Archicad.
To do this, in the Library Manager select the libraries which must be removed and click the 'Remove Selected Library' button.
Then, click the 'Add...' button and choose the correct libraries from the Archicad install directory. By default this will be:
Windows:
C:\Program Files\GRAPHISOFT\Archicad##\...
Where ## is the Archicad version number.
Mac:
/Applications/Graphisoft/Archicad ##/...
Where ## is the Archicad version number.
The standard libraries to load are:
- Archicad Library ##
- Archicad Migration Libraries
- Archicad MEP Library ##
Where ## is the Archicad version number.
Duplicate Libraries:
Under no circumstances should multiple copies of the CI Tools libraries be loaded in a project.
Loading multiple copies of a CI Tools library will cause that add-on to malfunction in unexpected ways and should always be avoided. Furthermore, you should only load the library made for the version of Archicad that you are using.
Please note that when installed correctly, the CI Library ##
folder where the CI Tools library files are located, is contained in the Archicad Library ##
folder by default, and does not need to be loaded separately.
Sometimes these libraries or elements from them may be loaded by accident, through inclusion in a company library archive or in a project's Embedded Library. The easiest way to determine whether this is the case is by checking the 'Warnings' section of the Library Manager.
This section will alert you to any duplicate elements present, including where in the libraries they are located. You can use this to identify and remove duplicate elements from the project libraries.
Duplicate elements in a project can cause glitches and performance issues so it is always recommended to delete them.
To delete an element from the Embedded Library, open the Library Manager from the File menu, select the Embedded Library from the top of the list and click the 'Embedded Library' tab at the top of the window.
Then, select the element or folder to be deleted and delete it by pressing the 'Delete selected library Item(s)' button below:
Where elements are stored in a company archive, these will have to be managed externally.
